It’s easy to either underspend and get stuck fighting bad tools, or overspend on gear you won’t touch for months. This is the actual working set — nothing here is a “maybe someday” item, and there’s nothing missing that you’ll be sending an urgent order for in week two.

1. A multimeter

6. Small side cutters

8. Safety glasses

9. A helping-hands stand

Two adjustable clips (often paired with a magnifying glass) to hold a board, a wire, or a component steady while both your hands are busy doing something else. What’s deliberately not on this list

A soldering iron, an oscilloscope, and a big component storage system are all genuinely useful — just not yet. All three make more sense once you know what you’re actually doing often enough to justify them, rather than buying on the assumption you’ll need them.
